As the global epidemic is being contained and China’s economic growth has returned to normal, the growth of the country's healthcare sector is likely to gradually slow down to pre-pandemic levels. In the second quarter of 2021, the government’s spending on health and family planning in China declined by 0.6% y/y to RMB 506.6bn. However, residents' expenditures on medicine and medical services are expected to retain a steady growth. In Q2 2021, the per capita healthcare expenditures of urban residents reached RMB 634, up by 22.4% y/y, while those of rural residents was RMB 396, up by 24.1% y/y. This was a combined result of sector reforms, accelerated application of online health services, and the ongoing push for private supply of healthcare services.
