In the first quarter of 2020, China food sector’s revenue dropped by 10.9% y/y to RMB 397.8bn, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The large-scale quarantine also harmed the sector’s total profit for that quarter, which slumped by 28.2% y/y to RMB 28.7bn. In Q1 2020, the production of almost all foods declined sharply. The output of salt slumped by 27.7% y/y to 8mn tonnes and that of fresh and refrigerated meat plummeted by 25.1% y/y to 5.4mn tonnes. during the quarter. In the first three months of 2020, the production of dairy products decreased by 9.4% y/y to 5.7mn tonnes and the output of refined edible vegetable oil declined by 9.3% y/y to 10.7mn tonnes.
