The revenue of China’s beverage sector rose by 2.8% y/y to RMB 391.7bn in the third quarter of 2020, as some major beverages’ sales started to recover after the successful containment of the coronavirus outbreak. Beverage retail sales in July-September 2020 grew by 10.1% y/y to RMB 61.1bn, thanks to increased demand for high-end baijiu and grape wine. The production of grape wine in Q3 2020 soared by 39.7% y/y to 81mn litres, as imports dropped sharply. Baijiu production in July-September 2020 plummeted by 27.9% y/y to 1.3bn litres. Beer output during this period declined by 6.1% y/y to 11bn litres. The output of soft drinks in Q3 2020 decreased by 6.2% y/y to 51.6mn tonnes.
