Grupo Financiero de Occidente (GFO) was founded in 1978. The group is made up of six companies that provide specialized financial services such as: life insurance, credit cards, bonds, mutual funds and brokerage firm. In addition Financiera de Occidente, S.A. is the entity responsible for the group with the Superintendency of Banks of Guatemala. In December 2019, the Monetary Board resolved to suspend the operations of Grupo Financiero de Occidente, including the exit of this entity from the national banking system.
