Tourism contributes 12.7% to Philippines’ GDP in 2018

The tourism sector has contributed 12.7% to the Philippines's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2018, The Manila Times reported referring to data provided by the country’s statistics office. Thus, its contribution has slightly risen from its 12.2% level in 2017.

In 2018, the country’s Tourism Direct Gross Value Added (TDGVA) rose by 14.3% on an annual basis to PHP 2.2 trillion. In the meantime, the count of domestic tourist arrivals rose by 14.1% year-on-year to 110 million.

The Philippines’ tourism secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat commented that the data proved that the country’s sector was sustainable and it was an engine for socio-economic growth that provides jobs and income, The Manila Times noted.
