Thailand’s car market expected to see improved performance in 2018

The total number of vehicles booked at the 39th Bangkok International Motor Show in 2018 amounted to 36,587 units, an 18% increase from last year’s record. Meanwhile, the number of visitors to the auto show has decreased from 1.65 million recorded in 2017 to 1.62 million this year, the Bangkok Post has reported referring to data from Grand Prix International Plc (GPI), the show organizer.

Jaturont Komolmis, GPI's chief operating officer, attributes the increase in car bookings to attractive sales campaigns and hire-purchasing loans offered by car distributors to buyers. Jaturont predicts that the high volume of advance bookings will result in positive momentum for Thailand’s car market over the remaining months of this year, the Bangkok Post has noted.

According to GPI, Toyota recorded 5,689 bookings at the auto show this year, making it the best-selling car brand. Meanwhile, Honda and Mazda came in second and third, with 5,133 and 5,021 bookings, respectively.
