Number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand surged by 7% in Q1 2018

The number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand in the first quarter of 2018 amounted to 9.84 million, a 7% increase compared to the same period last year, Bangkok Post has reported referring to data from the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT).

The growing number of foreign visitors was attributed to the global economic recovery and attractive campaigns promoted by the public and private sectors. Due to the positive economic outlook, TCT projects that the total number of international tourist arrivals to Thailand will increase by 9.2% to 38.93 million in 2018, generating 2.14 trillion baht of tourism income.

TCT also expects the domestic tourism sector to grow significantly as statistics show that 33% of local people plan to make trips in the second quarter of this year due to the long holiday period in April.
