Ghana’s trade balance accumulates USD 584.5mn surplus in Jan-Feb

Ghana’s trade balance accumulated USD 584.5mn surplus in Jan-Feb 2018, Ghana’s central bank governor Ernest Adisson said as quoted by Ghana Web. The surplus has increased from USD 494.3mn surplus recorded in Jan-Feb 2017 and accounts for 1.1% of GDP, Adisson detailed. The trade surplus bode well for the current account balance and external position of the country, he added.

Adisson also said that Ghana’s gross international reserves amounted to USD 6.9bn as of Mar 20 this year, falling by USD 0.7bn year-to-date. Adisson explained the decrease with seasonal foreign exchange flows, planned sovereign bond coupon payments and Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA) related payments.
