Bolivian President Evo Morales resigns amid October vote dispute
Bolivian President Evo Morales has resigned after three weeks of protests over the result of the October 20 presidential elections, Media Corp reported. The leftist politician has announced he is stepping down for the good of the country and so that the opposition leaders “do not continue to kick our brothers”.
A few days ago Morales called for new elections in order to calm the uproar. However, he was forced to resign after the military and the police withdrew their support.
The street protests began after the socialist was declared controversially the winner of the elections with a narrow margin. The opposition claimed there was a fraud in the vote count and the Organization of American States reported on Sunday irregularities in every aspect of the elections.Original source: Media Corp
